Stakeholder Preparatory Events for the IGR-2
Stakeholder Forum, together with its partners, will hold a series of stakeholder dialogues in preparation for the IGR-2. The purpose of these dialogues is to enable a broad range of local, national, and regional stakeholders (including those who are unable to attend the IGR-2 in China) to input their positions and experiences on protection of the marine environment in advance of the IGR-2.

The Second Intergovernmental Review of the GPA
The Second Intergovernmental Review Meeting (IGR-2) of the GPA will take place in Beijing, China on 16-20 October 2006. The meeting will bring together representatives from governments, intergovernmental organisations, NGOs and other groups to review the status of the implementation of the GPA and decide on action to be taken to strengthen the process of implementation.
The objectives of the Second Intergovernmental Review Meeting of the GPA (IGR-2) are to:
- Strengthen the implementation of the Global Programme of Action at national, regional and global levels.
- Contribute to the achievement of specific targets of the Johannesburg Plan of Implementation (JPOI) as they relate to the Global Programme of Action, ecosystem approach, and sanitation.
- Provide guidance on the programme of work for the UNEP/GPA Coordination Office for the period 2007-2011.
GPA Preparatory Meeting for the IGR-2
On 27-38 June, an informal preparatory meeting was held in Paris, France to discuss and advance the preparation of a number of official documents that will be finalized during IGR-2 in Beijing. The meeting was attended by 5 government representatives from each region and 2 stakeholder representatives. In preparation for the meeting, Stakeholder Forum consulted with stakeholders through multi-stakeholder consultations to prepare an input to the meeting.
